“BOC Life New Generation Financial and Technology Designers’ Programme – Sustainable Smart Hong Kong” Mobile Application Design and Drawing Contest for Hong Kong Primary Schools 2025

BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited ("BOC Life") and St. James’ Settlement ("SJS") are joining forces to launch the 2025 Hong Kong Primary School Mobile Application Design and Drawing Contest. This cross-sector initiative marks a new milestone in STEAM education, aligning with the government’s Policy Address to enhance STEAM learning and nurture future innovators for a sustainable, smart Hong Kong. Enrolment is now open to all primary school students across the city, with generous scholarships and prizes available.

The "BOC Life New Generation Financial and Technology Designers’ Programme – Sustainable Smart Hong Kong" Mobile Application Design and Drawing Contest for Hong Kong Primary Schools 2025 (“the contest”) is now inviting primary school students to showcase their creativity through either designing a mobile application or creating a drawing. All entries should focus on the theme of Sustainable Smart Hong Kong, with inspiration drawn from one of the three design directions: Smart CitySmart Ageing, or Smart Wellness. Students must submit their entries through their schools. The contest features two categories: Drawing contest for junior primary (P1–3) and mobile application design challenge for senior primary (P4–6). Students are encouraged to apply their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) knowledge to unleash their creativity and potential to curate sustainable smart Hong Kong.

Each contest category will award Champion, First Runner-up, Second Runner-up, two Merit Awards and a Most Active Participation prize. The top three winners will receive BOC Life Scholarships worth HK$10,000, HK$6,000, and HK$4,000 respectively, along with exclusive study trip at Greater Bay Area and Ocean Park Giant Panda visit.

Mr Wilson Tang, Chief Executive of BOC Life, shared: "The successful launch of this city-wide competition is the testament to cross-sector collaboration. Not only does it provide a platform for the younger generation to unleash their creativity and apply STEAM technology, but it also helps them explore the important roles that art and technological innovation play in empowering social sustainable development.”

Ms Josephine Lee, Chief Executive Officer of St. James' Settlement, stated: "BOC Life has been a longstanding partner of St. James' Settlement, working together to provide underprivileged children with opportunities to learn STEAM skills and contribute to Hong Kong's development as a smart city. This year marks the 75th anniversary of St. James' Settlement, we are delighted to have this co-organised competition. Through the competition, we hope to enhance students’ understanding of STEAM and sustainable development, while giving them the chance to engage with and learn STEAM skills. By doing so, we aim to foster their logical thinking and problem-solving abilities, preparing them to thrive in the age of artificial intelligence.”

Hong Kong primary schools are all invited to enrol for the contest.  To help participants, organisers will hold specialized mobile application development workshops to boost students' programming skills and app knowledge. The enrolment deadline is Tuesday, 30 September 2025. For full contest details, please refer to the attached document, or visit the official website at https://sustainable-smarthk-contest2025.com/.

About St. James' Settlement
Founded in 1949, St. James’ Settlement began as a club for boys and girls in a temple in Stone Nullah Lane, Wan Chai. It was then developed into a six-storey building on Kennedy Road in 1963 to provide diversified services, including children and youth services, elderly services and rehabilitation services. In 1987, the headquarters was opened in Stone Nullah Lane so that the scope of services could be further extended. Our first centre outside Wan Chai (named Central and Western District Elderly Community Centre) was established in 1990. Since then, different service centres have been developed and most of them are located along the north coast of Hong Kong Island, from The Belcher's in Western to Hing Wah Estate in Chai Wan. In recent years, in view of the society's ever changing needs, we have opened service centres in Kowloon and the New Territories. Until now, our 114 service points are in operation across Hong Kong serving around 3.5 million person-times every year. Our target beneficiaries include children, teenagers, adults, families, the elderly and people with disabilities.
